As I said on Twitter the other day.
“Little late here, but RIP Dennis Ritchie. Your book started me on my way to my CS Degree and love for Unix. Forever Thankful!”
I truly meant this. Dennis Ritchie was one of the authors along with Brian Kernighan. Dennis recently passed away. Without this book I’m not sure my love for computers and programming would have become what it is today. The C Progamming Language book taught me how to write the now infamous “Hello World!” program and encouraged me to think like a programmer. Of course at that time I wish it could have helped me check my syntax. That dam lint syntax checker and I never did get along, but that is a story for another post. I’m not sure how I could ever rightfully pay him homage. Maybe the best way is by making sure that book is always readily available on my bookshelf. Well that was easy, because it always has been.
