The Ballpark in Arlington

We took the boys out to the Ballpark in Arlington to their first Major League Baseball game between the Texas Rangers and the Oakland Athletics. You know I did not attend my first major league baseball game in person until I moved to Texas. I was around 23 at the time and the Rangers played at the old Arlington Stadium. That place was dump, and hotter than hell, but the bleachers were crazy and it was major league baseball so it was awesome. 23 yrs old vs 2 and 4 yrs old. Lucky kids!

A few years ago the Rangers remodeled the center field section of the ballpark and they added a kid zone. We had to check this out, and I’m glad we did. They had a lot of really cool stuff for the boys. Climbing areas, a gigantic baseball bat slide, cannons that shot soft balls, and face painting. The kids loved this place, and it was open until the 7th inning during the game.

This was a day game and our seats were located in the lower level just at the start of the outfield on the 1st base side. Day games in Texas can tend to be hot and this day was no exception. The boys only lasted about 3 innings before mom had to take them back to the kids zone. They did come back in the 7th though and the family enjoyed seeing a Rangers victory over the Athletics, 9 – 7.

Here is hoping that this is just the start of my boys love for baseball, a truly great American pastime.
