Our family ran our first 5K together this weekend. Wait a second here, stop, stop, Stop! Judy and I ran the 5K. Blake and Brayden rode in the stroller while mom and dad took turns pushing. Let me tell you one thing, pushing a stroller in a race is not fun, especially when starting in the back of the race.
We started in back because we felt it was the right thing to do. I’ve run enough races over the years to understand the etiquette of racing. The problem with starting in the back is, if you plan on running, eventually you will need to get past all the walkers first.
Quick Note: All you race organizers out there, please add signs for race paces including walking at the start of races, trust me it would help all of us out. We would then have a reason to yell at those walking in front of us.
Regardless of all the passing, we had to do it was an enjoyable race and a good post race party as well. The band was excellent. We were also impressed with the creativity several people showed in their running costumes. Brayden went as a clown, Blake went as a doctor, and Judy and I went as 5K runners. I know, creative right? Judy and I had race numbers 1 and 2 respectively. I wish we could have lived up to those lofty standards. Oh well, maybe next year. We highly recommend the Trick or Treat 5K that Luke’s Locker puts on every October right before Halloween. It was a lot of fun.
One last thing, a very funny moment occurred after the race, my son Blake looks up from the stroller, Mom, Dad, why did we stop running? I want to do that again, that was fun! Judy and I look at each other and just quietly shake our heads.
My thought at that moment, Okay, our turn to ride!
