Most people know how much I love Iowa Hawkeye football. Growing up in Iowa, Hawkeye football was a religion. I’ve been to several bowl games in the past, but last year I missed the Insight Bowl in Phoenix. Well, I wasn’t going to miss it this year. Especially, since it was the same bowl in Phoenix against an Oklahoma Sooner team I’ve seen a lot of living in Big 12 country. I went with my good friend Aaron and we stayed at his good friend Jarod’s house in Phoenix. It was a real quick out and back, one day trip. Jarod set everything up for us and it was awesome. I’m not sure we could thank him enough.
The Hawks and the game on the other hand, not so great. The offense looked horrible and the defense looked great until both decided to flip roles in the 4th quarter. In order to beat a solid, but banged up Oklahoma Sooner team we were going to need both to play well the entire game. The Hawks ended up losing 31-14 which included a late junk TD by Oklahoma. The crowds were great. Iowa fans once again dominated the tailgating scene as always. Oklahoma fans were cool and respectful. The best kind. Certainly, without injuries, this OU team is more than likely in a BCS bowl game. I wish I could say we have a lot to look forward to next year, but I’m not sure. I have a feeling this Hawk team could be losing more than it can replace. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
Funny side story about that game. The sky camera that fell onto the field during the game had a cable that ran over our heads. No, we did not bring it down, but I can see how some of you would think that. After the camera fell we all grabbed the cable and were trying to help some of the workers figure out what to do with it. We started reeling it in and noticed that it was dragging the camera across the field. Later that night we saw the camera being drug across the field on ESPN Sports Center highlights. So indirectly we made it on Sports Center. I will call that a win in my book. Check out the picture of me in the picture gallery below with the cable. Once again for any of you doubters, I had nothing to do with the camera falling out of the sky.
As for college football. We will miss you, but we will see you again next year!
