The State Fair of Texas is hard to describe in words. The only word that comes to mind is awesome. Back in Cedar Rapids, IA where I am originally from, my school and church put on the biggest festival in Cedar Rapids, The St. Jude Sweet Corn Festival. If you are ever in Cedar Rapids, IA during mid August I recommend you attend. If only for the best sweet corn you will ever have. Anyway, I guess the State Fair of Texas reminds me of my childhood and the Sweet Corn Festival but on a scale of about 1000 times as big. If you think I’m joking I’m not. There is so much to do there it is impossible to do it all in one day. For instance this year our family did the following:
- Fletcher Corn Dogs – have to do this, it’s tradition
- Puppet Show
- Fiber Pavilion ($2 chocolate milks)
- Farm Animal Petting Zone
- Pig Races
- Dinner at one of the 1000 booths
- A quick visit to take Blake to Big Tex along with my impersonation of Big Tex
- State Fair Parade
- Dessert – Fried Cheesecake, have to get something fried. This reminded me of a Oktoberfest Strudel
- Blake Rode about 3 rides and played one carnival game
Of course this was all done in only a small section of the State Fair. Yep we probably did not get to 75% of the other stuff that is at the Fair. We will add it to our list for next year. Until then…
