The ICE

We took a quick trip out the Gaylord Texan Hotel for their annual Christmas Time Ice display. This year was ICE! featuring DreamWorks’ Merry Madagascar.None of us had been before, but we heard good things. Even though we knew it would be expensive we felt like it was something the kids would enjoy and who knows maybe even become a tradition. Even though the venue was overcrowded we still enjoyed ourselves. We knew about the crowds going in from friends and online reviews, but if you do not like crowds this is not the display for you. They keep the temperature at a very balmy 9°. I’ve been away from Iowa too long. 9° is cold even if it is only for 45 minutes or so.

We all got to put on our big blue warm parkas. At first I thought I was tough enough to go without, but halfway through I realized I’m a wimp. The boys knew all the Madagascar characters. I’d have to say their favorite was a tie between the lemurs and the penguins. About three-quarters of the way through they had slides made out of ice. The boys and mom slid down the slide while day tried to capture all the action on video. Dad’s hands were cold by the time the family made it to the top to slide down but everyone enjoyed the slide.

When we were done we treated ourselves to some nice warm hot chocolate and thawed out. Then we walked around the Gaylord Hotel looking at all the other Christmas stuff they had on display. If you are in Texas around Christmas time we definitely recommend at trip to this hotel.

Ice, Ice, Baby (yeah I had to end with that)
