Dickens on the Square

We attended “Dickens on the Square” today in Mckinney, Texas. Other than the fact that it was a cold day outside for us Texans, mid 40s with 15-20 mph winds, we had a wonderful time. We started by grabbing a bite to eat and a McKinney Square burger joint called, The Square. Very good burger, and great sweet potato fries. Then we took the kids over to the petting zoo. Brayden and Blake were able to pet several different animals, goats, pigs, rabbits, chickens, a baby mule, a duck, and an alpaca. We had to reel Brayden in a little as his excitement led to a few of the animals becoming annoyed with his presence (a true Clancy in the making for sure).

After that Mom took Blake for his first ice skating experience. Well, that fact that he wants to do it again says it all. I was actually more impressed with Mom. She did not fall down once and they went around twice. Most of it close to the guard rail, but I guarantee I could not have done that well. Next we headed to Brayden’s favorite the Frosty train that took the kids and Mom around the square. Of course in the Frosty train, Frosty does not drive he rides in the caboose. Blake even gave Frosty a high five at the end of the ride so we know they liked this activity. Of course I will have to hear about it for the next year, but it is worth it.

We ended up stopping in a few shops, listening to some carolers, drinking some hot chocolate, eating some apple strudel and letting the kids bounce for a while in bounce house. Not a bad day at all. It even snowed, okay it was manufactured snow but reminded me of growing up in Iowa. Okay no it did not. In Iowa I would have been looking for my shovel. An all around enjoyable family activity for the day.

So In true Dickens fashion, “God Bless Us, Every One!”
